IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED: DON'T READ THIS!!!!

I think I watched Foodwars (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma) already twice or three times before writing this review. I first watched it when it was still coming out in 2019 and I was 17 years old. Back then I loved it (I would have given it easily a 10/10), but was it really that good?

Pic of Soma and his friends
The guy in the middle is Soma and the main girl is the one to the left with blondish hair and his father is on the down right.

Story

The anime follows a boy called Soma, which gets forced into this prestiges cooking school called "Totsuki". At this school cooking is everything. All arguments are fought out in the so called "Shokugeki" which i think just means "Foodwar" in Japanese. Essentially the goal of the show is that Soma gets the number 1 seat in the student council (This is where all the power lies baby!). Thats the premise of the first two seasons. We can see alot of cooking battles and alot of creative dishes which, technically, you could cook yourself (I never did). It looks so delicous and yummy!

After that it gets weird tho, so in season three and four, this new school rector appears who is basically a cartoon villain. He wants no more creativity in cooking and wants everyone to learn the same procedures and use the same ingredients bla bla bla. So in these two seasons Soma and his friends have to fight the current student council to enforce the old system back. Because as we know there is nothing more powerful than the student council. In the end, who would have guessed, they do win against all members of the student council, BUT it didn't feel satisfying. Lowkey Soma and his friends were NOT better than Nr.1 and Nr.2 of the student council and they just won out of plot armor (i know this is not the right use of the word but you get it). And like that Soma gets the Nr.1 spot. HURRAY

If you thought the season three and four sounded bad get ready for season five. In this season a new character appears which seems to be related with Soma's Dad (???, bear in mind Soma's Dad and his story are already weird as frick) Anyways, and this guy wants to marry the main girl from the anime... Why: We don't know?
The new guy beats everyone in a cooking duel, but the duals are so bad, like the food doesn't look good, they aren't explaining a thing (like what they used or how they cooked it). And Soma and his friends try to redeem himself in an competition called BLUE (in this universe this is the holy of all holy grails). The best chefs all around the world come together and compete on who the best cook is.
...So yea, basically I dropped it by now.

S1 & S2: 10/10
S3 & S4: 7/10
S5: 4/10

Animation

The animation in the first 4 seasons is PHENOMENAL. Like WOW! This is exactly what you'd expect from a cooking anime. I have to say there is a lot of Fansevice which, I personally, am not a fan of. Like the amount of Fanservice is ridiculous. There is not one episode where there isn't Fanservice. If you dont know what Fanservice means: Fanservice. Anyways I'll show you some of my favorite dishes from the show down bellow.

S1 - S4: 10/10
S5: 6/10

All in all; I would recommend this show. With an overall enjoyment rating of: 8/10

Inshallah I will find someone who will do all these dishes for me. Also bc you made it this far: here is the best OST of the anime to listen to :))
